We are moving!
Perhaps you’ve already heard, or maybe you saw our cheerful banner along the road. After a long search, the time has finally come: we are moving at the end of 2026. We are excited to explain why!
As you undoubtedly know, over the past seven years, both our organization and our expertise have grown exponentially—yet our available space has stayed the same. We have been bursting at the seams for quite some time. Every square meter is fully utilized, and facilities are forced to overlap:
- Fecal examinations take place in the breakroom.
- Blood analyses are conducted in the main office.
- Staff members change clothes under the stairs.
- Cleaning supplies are tucked away alongside dishware.
- Wet overalls land on top of merchandise boxes.
- Bales of hay and feed bags are stacked next to the saw in the workshop.
Every single day, handcarts loaded with hay and shearing tables have to be hauled out of the way before Jacco can cut boards and beams.
Current location
Of course, we love our current site. We have worked incredibly hard to build it up, and we enjoy the scenic view as well as the lively atmosphere of the main road. Guiding the herds across the road every day has become a genuine tourist attraction! However, it requires an immense amount of labor: every day, it takes four people just to safely herd the alpacas to the pastures on the other side.
Space for everyone
At Kluithoekweg 3 in Biggekerke—right here on Walcheren—we can already visualize the future. We are expanding from 3 hectares of pasture land to 12 hectares! This expansion means plenty of room for paved exercise yards in and around the pastures so the animals can keep their feet dry during winter. It also allows all pastures to periodically rest, naturally killing off parasites while letting the grass and soil recover.
Furthermore, every herd will get a spacious barn with its own adjoining, well-drained sand paddock. We will set up dedicated, proper workspaces:
- A clinical treatment room
- A blood analysis laboratory
- A separate room for fecal testing
- A breakroom and changing area for staff and volunteers
- A spacious visitor cafe where guests can enjoy refreshments while overlooking the pastures
At this new location, our rescue center can grow professionally into the future—providing top-tier care for the animals, educational outreach for the public, and up-to-date information for alpaca owners, livestock keepers, breeders, veterinary students, and professors alike. In short: it is the place we have been dreaming of for years!
