Libby (born 2022) has been struggling with severe mange infestations since she was just four months old. Her previous owner tried everything: injections, washings, showers, extra shearing. Nothing seemed to help. When the attending veterinarian suggested that euthanasia was the only remaining option, they contacted us. They surrendered Libby and provided a contribution toward her recovery.

Libby was timid, constantly itching, and large areas of her skin were severely irritated. During the summer, we treated her intensively: weekly swims in the sea, applying soothing lotion, weekly washes with medicated shampoo, and weekly removal of all crusts from affected areas followed by disinfecting and applying protective creams—going through countless tubs in the process. Hours of meticulous, attentive care. Libby peacefully allowed us to care for her. She was also put on a specially tailored diet. Slowly, her skin calmed down, and so did Libby.

Pregnant

In September, we discovered that Libby was pregnant. Unfortunately, her baby girl was stillborn in October following a difficult breech delivery. Libby suffered a setback in her skin condition, but as her grief has receded, her skin is improving once again. Bit by bit, we are seeing Libby transform: she is becoming bolder and happier, her ears are held high more often, and new white hairs are beginning to sprout on her bare patches.
