Alpacas feast on discarded Christmas trees

At the alpaca rescue center Alpacas Zeelandia in Aagtekerke, thousands of Christmas trees have been delivered since New Year’s Day. They serve as a delicious snack for the animals, who are especially fond of the Nordmann fir.

This year, the Zeeland Waste Management Service (ZRD) no longer needs to drive to the recycling center to dispose of household Christmas trees in the municipality of Veere. As soon as the truck is full, the driver enters the address of the alpaca rescue center in Aagtekerke into the satnav—because over there, they are more than happy to welcome the discarded fir trees.
